Stage Crew
The backstage team at BADS have great enthusiasm for making things happen. No matter what the set calls for the backstage team provides it with (usually!) the minimum of fuss but have a lot of fun doing it!

The backstage team is led by Stage Manager, Anne Nichols. Pauline Walton has taken over as Props Manager, and the Stage Crew cover all the tasks needed from Prompt to Scenery to Wardrobe. Makeup is in the capable hands of Jill Anderson who inherited the job from Polly Gabriel, whilst Lighting is the realm of George Isherwood and Sound is handled by Barry Morgan. This year Jill is training to be a Lighting operator, so we're looking for another Makeup person, and we're still trying to find a dedicated someone to look after our Wardrobe.

As well as creating sets for each play the stage crew had to build up the flats from scratch from a huge pile of component parts - think wood and canvas Meccano and you get the idea! We've alos solved some very thorny problems... such as how to have a goldfish which looks like a goldfish on stage without using a real fish, how to turn an inside hotel lounge into a outside swimming pool terrace in under ten minutes, and how to create a very realistic scary storm scene with masses of thunder and lightning!

The stage crew tends to vary with each production but often includes Alex Driver who can move things on his own that the rest of us struggle with in pairs! Other company members work as stage crew when they are not acting, depending on the current production.
